Selected Extracts from the Report of Captain C D Howard-Johnston (CO HMS BERMUDA) dated Shanghai 22nd April 1947. "YOKAHAMA - 20th March 1947 to 31st March, 1947. Examination of the split in the ships side plating at 19 Station Starboard sustained in rough weather on the 16th of March on passage from Hong Kong to Yokohama was carried out and temporary repairs were effected from ship's resources to keep the Naval Store watertight. This repair was insufficient to prevent the split extending in a seaway and repair in dock before sailing for the U.K. was necessary…. KURE - 2nd April to 15 April, 1947. …On arrival, the ship was listed to bring the defective side plating at 19 Station Starboard above water for examination. The ship steamed into Number 3 Dock at Kure on the 8th of April. Temporary repairs consisting of a new panel inserted flush and butt welded all round, were completed satisfactorily. Examination of the panel removed showed the plating of 'F' Strake to be laminated. A report is being forwarded to the Commander-in-Chief, British Pacific Fleet. The ship undocked on the 10th April, 1947…. ….H.M.S.GAMBIA, wearing the Flag of the Flag Officer Commanding, Fifth Cruiser Squadron, arrived at KURE at 1400 on 9th April, 1947. On the 10th and 11th April, 1947 H.M.S. BERMUDA was inspected by the Flag Officer Commanding, Fifth Cruiser Squadron…."

JULY 1947 Long Leave for all the ship's company continued through the first half of the July 1947 with many drafted elsewhere on completion. The ship was then decommissioned and in refit in Chatham Dockyard from August 1947.
1948 - 1949 On completion of the refit the ship was moved down-river to Sheerness to join the many other ships in reserve secured to trots of buoys.
At sometime around the middle of 1948 HMS BERMUDA was taken (presumably towed) from Sheerness to Devonport where she was secured on moorings alongside HMS CUMBERLAND off Flagstaff Steps. From September 1948 - with a Commander-in-command and a very much reduced ship's company - she was in active reserve and used as an accommodation and training ship for Indian Navy Stokers through to then end on 1949.
